Shifting from generalization, exotification and expectation, I would like to reclaim the question where are you from?as a source of power and opportunity to discuss varied, multi-faceted and complex stories of being Asian American.
Where are you from? What have you found powerful about your history? What would you like to honor? I asked individuals living in Portland who identify as Asian American to submit a photo in response to the prompt above with a short writen statement about why they chose their photo.
